That's an intricately woven story. The designs maybe grandiose for the wearer but are very muted for the impoverished weaver. This story deserves to be featured .

So many conflicting issues here, no real answers . The least we can do is keep away from such ostentation.

PS: Diamonds from conflict ridden or war zones are marked as conflict diamonds and their market value is far less. Just a random thought that crossed my mind.

U r right.....there have been cases of famous name brands being made in countries other than their own in such sweat shops..........but there are also more an d moe conscientous people who are finding out and letting them know........and it gets to us the consumers too. Any awareness should mean that we have to do our bit and keep off that product

All that glitters is not gold.  Sad story.  Selfish self-absorbed interests and their ramifications.

Well written.

An intricately woven tale which portrays economic contrasts and the price of obsessively conspicuous consumption.
Hard to know which clothes are made in sweat shops though. Sometimes even average-priced brands are made in sweat shops.
Great write.

the parents have a responsibility and so does the state........if there was more family planning maybe those children may not have been born........but I think the old mind set of more children means more hands to work on the fields or to earn an income has something to do with this. Then once they are there alive and kicking and jobs are in short supply, they become another mouth to feed and the parents are easy prey for the ones who promise employment and income.
I think many issues are involved here, as I cna see from many of the comments here .

Q
you are right..........the page 3 set alone are not to blame but i used that as a ploy to provide more of a contrast to depict the two ends of the scale. My mentioning that Tina casually wrote hefty checks for charities was to show that she is not inhuman but just uninformed and insulated by her wealth from the real world.
thnx for the visit and the c omments
